As a solo or small business owner, you know how important content marketing is for your business. But coming up with ideas, writing and editing content, and promoting it can be time-consuming and overwhelming.

That’s where ChatGPT comes in. This powerful artificial intelligence (AI) tool can help you save time and effort on your content marketing efforts by generating ideas, writing and editing content, and promoting it.

In this blog post, you’ll learn ten ways to use ChatGPT for your content marketing. From generating ideas for blog posts and social media updates to crafting email marketing campaigns and newsletters, ChatGPT has you covered.

Plus, I’ll share tips on using ChatGPT effectively and getting the most out of this fantastic tool. So if you’re a solo business owner looking to streamline your content marketing efforts, this blog post is for you.

It’s essential to know how you want to use AI for your content marketing and, specifically, how to integrate ChatGPT into your current marketing strategy.

Just for a laugh, I asked ChatGPT to create a poem about the traffic I experienced driving home the day after Christmas (no edits from me). Scroll through the comments to find a Shakesperian version.

But what is ChatGPT anyway?

ChatGPT is a powerful language processing tool developed by OpenAI. It uses machine learning algorithms to generate human-like text based on a given prompt. I’ve found ChatGPT is useful for generating ideas and outlines and creating content in various formats, including blog posts, social media updates, email newsletters, and more.

One of the key benefits of ChatGPT is its ability to save time and effort for small and solo business owners. Instead of spending hours brainstorming ideas or writing and editing content, you can use ChatGPT to do the work for you. Simply enter a prompt and let ChatGPT generate ideas or write content for you. You can review the output and make edits (highly recommended!) to fit your specific needs and, most importantly, your voice.

A strategic plan you can implement for your online marketing…

Step 1: Identify your goals and objectives for using ChatGPT. This might include increasing website traffic, generating leads, or boosting engagement on social media. Clearly define what you hope to achieve by using ChatGPT so you can measure your success.

Step 2: Determine which types of content you want to create with ChatGPT. This might include blog posts, social media updates, email newsletters, or video scripts. Be specific about what you want to create and how ChatGPT can help you achieve it.

Step 3: Set up a schedule for using ChatGPT. Decide how often you want to use the tool and plan a schedule that works for you. This might involve using ChatGPT once a week to generate ideas for blog posts or using it daily to create social media updates.

Step 4: Experiment with different prompts and settings. ChatGPT is a flexible tool that can be customized to fit your needs. Experiment with different prompts and settings to see what works best for you.

Step 5: Monitor and track your results. Use tools like Google Analytics or your email marketing platform’s analytics to track how well ChatGPT is helping you achieve your goals. Use this data to fine-tune your strategy and continue to improve your results.

Step 6: Integrate ChatGPT into your overall marketing strategy. Use ChatGPT as part of a comprehensive marketing plan to help you get the most out of the tool and achieve your overall business goals.

I promised ten ways to use ChatGPT, and below is a list to get you started. When starting out, choose 1–3 ways to experiment with until you feel comfortable using the tool.

The first thing I did after I signed up is created a prompt to generate a Twitter Thread for a blog post. I was blown away. The content was unique (no AI) and written by a guest blogger, and saved me at least 30 minutes. Here’s the post, and here’s the thread (click the tweet to see the full thread) ⬇

10 Ways to Use ChatGPT for Content Marketing

  1. Generating ideas for blog posts, social media updates, and other types of content
  2. Writing and editing content
  3. Generating headlines and titles
  4. Creating email marketing campaigns and newsletters
  5. Generating social media updates and scheduling them for maximum impact

  7. Crafting calls to action and lead magnets
  8. Generating ideas for webinars and other types of online events
  9. Creating content for landing pages and sales pages

Now, if you were to implement the strategic plan laid out above, here’s how it might look based on what you decide to create with ChatGPT:

Prompts are the secret sauce

What I quickly discovered is that the PROMPT is everything! What you get from ChatGPT is determined by the quality of what you ask it to do or generate or create. So, what is a prompt?

Prompts are the input you give to ChatGPT to generate text or ideas. They can be as simple as a single word or phrase, or they can be more complex, such as a full sentence or paragraph. The prompts you use will depend on the type of content you want to create and your specific goals and objectives.

To use prompts effectively, it’s important to be clear and specific about what you want to achieve. For example, if you want to generate ideas for a blog post, you might use a prompt like “10 tips for small business owners” or “5 common mistakes to avoid in [industry].” If you’re using ChatGPT to write content, you might use a prompt like “Write a blog post about the benefits of using ChatGPT for solo business owners” or “Craft a social media update promoting a new product or service.”

By experimenting with different prompts and settings, you can find the best results for your specific needs. Don’t be afraid to try out different approaches and see what works best for you. With some trial and error, you can find the prompts and settings that work best for your business and help you achieve your content marketing goals.

For example, here’s the prompt I used to create the Twitter thread above:

create a twitter thread from this article: https://denisewakeman.com/your-service-business/5-ways-reduce-stress-avoid-burnout/

And here’s one I used to prepare a list of interview questions, all of which were excellent:

What questions should I ask an expert on yoga therapy?

And here’s another one:

What are best practices for creating prompts for ChatGPT, in language a 10 year old would understand

And here’s the output for that prompt about prompts (lightly edited with Grammarly for better readability):

  1. Keep it simple: Use simple language when creating prompts for ChatGPT. Avoid jargon or technical terms that a 10 year old might not understand.
  2. Use clear and specific instructions: Make sure the prompts clearly state what you want ChatGPT to do. For example, “Write a story about a princess who goes on an adventure” is a clearer and more specific prompt than “Write a story.”
  3. Use examples: If you’re unsure how to word a prompt, try using an example as a starting point. For example, “Write a story similar to the one in this example: Once upon a time, there was a brave knight who went on a quest to save the princess from the dragon.”
  4. Test the prompts: After creating the prompts, it can be helpful to test them to make sure they are effective. You can do this by inputting the prompts into ChatGPT and seeing how well the model responds. If the responses are not what you expected, you may need to adjust the prompts to make them more precise or more specific.
  5. Get feedback: Finally, getting feedback on your prompts from someone else can be helpful, especially if that person is a 10 year old. This can help you identify any issues with the prompts and make sure they are easy for a 10 year old to understand.

What do you think? Ready to start experimenting with ChatGPT and save time with your content marketing?

AI tools are not going away. When used responsibly to HELP you with your online marketing, that’s a good thing. Relying on them 100% is not the way to go.

Start with a prompt. See what you get. Tweak and edit to make sure the content reflects YOU 100%. Post your comments and questions below. 😎

Full Disclosure: some of this blog post content was generated by prompts I used with ChatGPT. It’s been edited and embellished as I’ve put the post together.
